MSC8156 Edit

According to Freescale, the MSC8156 is able to handle a broad range of next-generation standards, including 3G-LTE, TDD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, and WiMAX. For example, a single MSC8156 is able to handle Layer 1 processing for an entire 3G-LTE sector.

MSBA8100 Multistandard Baseband Accelerator... Freescale introduces the MSBA8100—the market’s first multistandard baseband accelerator that supports the new wireless standards like 3G-LTE, WiMAX, HSPA+ and TDD-LTE. The device enables manufacturers of wireless infrastructure equipment to create substantially lower-cost, differentiated channel cards. Based on the unique Multi-Accelerator-Platform-Engine for Baseband (MAPLE-B) technology developed by Freescale, the device accelerates Turbo and Viterbi decoding, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), Inverse Fast Fourier Transform (IFFT), Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT), and Inverse Discrete Fourier Transform (IDFT) operations currently performed in FPGA or custom ASIC devices. Eliminating the need to develop costly FPGA or custom ASIC devices, the baseband accelerator together with Freescale’s MSC8144 quad core DSP provides a flexible solution for a range of base station designs...(More)

Wimax, 3G, LTE MPC8569E Edit

Provides ref designs Edit

The MSC8156E is a six-core DSP based on Freescale’s new SC3850 StarCore® technology and designed to advance the capabilities of wireless broadband equipment. It delivers industry-leading performance and power savings, leveraging 45 nm process technology in a highly integrated SoC to provide performance equivalent to six gigahertz of a single core device. The MSC8156E will help equipment manufacturers and carriers create solutions and services that enable near-term, mainstream adoption of next-generation wireless standards such as 3G-LTE, WiMAX, HSPA+ and TDD-LTE. The device is designed to lower system costs by integrating functionality into a single device that previously required multiple discrete parts.

asdf Edit Did I mention that the professional version of the Altera software license expires after one year and you have to renew it every year (for $2,495), if you want to do bugfixes later in your designs? Last time I used it, you couldn't use NIOS with the free web edition. Compare this to a ARM-GCC-Eclipse toolchain or the free Symphony Studio IDE for the nice Freescale DSPs.
